TikTok star who went viral after releasing song to support 7-year-old son, dies aged 31

Cat Janice, who went viral after releasing a song to support her seven-year-old son, has died at the age of 31.

The social media personality, who was hugely popular on TikTok, has tragically lost her battle to cancer.

The singer’s family announced she had died on Wednesday through Cat’s Instagram account. The post read: “This morning, from her childhood home and surrounded by her loving family, Catherine peacefully entered the light and love of her heavenly creator.”

It continued: “We are eternally thankful for the outpouring of love that Catherine and our family have received over the past few months.”

The family told fans that Cat saw her music “go places she never expected,” and it would not have been possible without her fans. She gained fame in January on TikTok with her song, Dance You Outta My Head.

Cat’s family added that she is now resting in peace “knowing that she will continue to provide for her son through her music.”

The post also stated that Cat’s Instagram account will be memorialised by her brother, who goes by Cubby. He will be overseeing everything regarding Cat’s music, merchandise and public relations.

They also shared that through Cat’s request, there are “some more art that she wants to share too. All in due time.”

Cat started sharing her cancer journey in November 2021. She shared in a TikTok video that she first felt a lump in her neck. She was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare cancer that develops in the bones and soft tissues. She underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation before she was cancer-free in July 2022. During her journey, she wrote music and shared her songs on social media.

The singer tragically revealed that her cancer returned and she entered a hospice in January after not being able to breathe, according to PEOPLE. She revealed that all of her songs were put out for her son, Loren, and all proceeds made will go to him.

She said: “Everyone knows that I’ve been battling cancer for a while and I wanted to put this song out, and just go stream it. I hope you like it. I don’t know if I’m going to be around even when the song comes out, so let’s just put it out. And I did.”
